Women's Clothing During The American Civil War 1861-1865 For those that have an interest, some websites that sell patterns for period clothing (men, women, children) have been listed here. Most of them sell the same patterns, it's a case of working out what is the cheapest on shipping. They are all in the States, so credit cards at the ready. The only way that the Ladies will have any period clothing is to get a pattern and make it themselves (or sweet talk someone else who can sew). The first sewing machines were produced during this period with Singer producing their first chain stitch machine in 1851. (So you can tell this to the curious onlooker, if asked.) Like a good building, fashion relies on having the proper foundation. What a fashionable lady should be seen wearing in public. How wide? How long? Plain or print, you decide. No outfit is complete without these. Completing the ensemble with the right look. Links to helpful websites and useful books. [Article by Cassandra] |
